About

Hi! I’m Mingfei Chen (he/him/his), a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in Geology Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign of the U.S. working with Dr. Jessica Conroy.

I received my B.S. from Peking University. My interests include molecular microbiology, geochemistry, and paleolimnology. My PhD research focused on understanding the microbial-geochemical interactions in lacustrine and marine environments. Part of this work revealed better understanding of what controls d15N signatures in lake sediment cores and was published in Journal of Paleolimnology.

In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, bouldering, weight-lifting , hiking, and bakery.
